The FAT clean mode of the Mark Five 25 is showcased here delivering authentic preamp breakup AND power section overdrive in this traditionally styled Blues riff. The lower 10 Watt power selection further adds to the faithful clip that defines so many roots styles of rhythm and single note solo sounds.
While Mark series amps are often most widely recognized for their higher gain modes (Mark IIC+, Mark IV etc.) and pristine clean sounds, the FAT mode of the Mark Five 25 offers an extensive range of clean, clipped, drive and crunch sounds with just a few simple settings changes. Coupled with the tight punch, chime and sparkle of the EL-84 power section (that smears and grinds beautifully when pushed), FAT clean and all the modes of the Mark Five 25 should be looked at as separate amps that you’ll explore and find new sounds from for years to come.
Recorded with the Neck position pickup of a Tom Anderson Drop Top Classic through the FAT mode of Ch. 1 into two 1x12 Thiele cabs loaded with Celestion C90 speakers. Recorded with a Shure SM 57, Shure KSM 313 and the Mark Five: 25 on-board CabClone. Mixed with varying levels of the mics and CabClone for each clip and mastered for optimized output.
