The Mark IV Mode in the Mark Five 25 represents a culmination of Mark series gain sounds that spans more than four decades of all-tube cascading preamp gain innovation from the company that created it! This clip showcases the heavy harmonic layering and lush saturation that is the trademark of the MK IV mode and has made it’s place in the history of modern rock, alternative, progressive and metal styles, as well as expressive, singing and sustaining lead sounds for single note playing.
Combined with the 5-Band Graphic EQ set to a general mid scoop in this clip, you get the sense of multi-tracked guitars with just one center channel take. Extremely versatile and useable in a wide range of styles and musical applications and combined with the tight punch and clip-ability of the EL-84 power section, the MK IV mode offers and incredible spectrum of gain sounds in the signature Mark series vein.
Recorded with the Bridge position humbucker of a Les Paul through the MK IV mode in Ch. 2 into two 1x12 Mini Rectifier Extension Cabs loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. Recorded with a Shure SM 57, Shure KSM 313 and the Mark Five: 25's on-board CabClone. Mixed with varying levels of the mics and CabClone and mastered for optimized output.
