Marc and Jeff join forces on a few Stanley Clarke classics while wielding the instrument that made it all possible—a spectacular brown bass and a cocobolo topped bass—modeled after Clarke's Alembic from the ’70s. In true custom Alembic fashion, these babies boast a few minor changes customized especially for us at CME. We're proud to finally bring the Alembic workshop into CME fold as a member of our family of brands!
On the brown basses, the body shape features a flatter bottom and more sharply curved horns than the original Clarke bass. The neck dimensions on both are a tad smaller than on early Clarke basses, at 1.5" nut with and a short scale.
The Clarke-inspired basses offer a rounder sound than you might expect from Alembic due to their mahogany necks with birch and walnut laminates, along with round-sounding classic Alembic humbucking pickups. The switching is unique to each model, and both basses offer ebony fingerboards with LEDs, oval abalone inlays and plated brass hardware, just to name a few deluxe appointments.
