Sweet Home Alabama is a classic riff that falls onto most guitar players radars at some stage. It’s one of those riffs that has plagued guitar store workers for many years, but that’s no excuse to ignore learning it right?!
In this lesson we’re going to check out how to play this classic picked chord riff that’s full of Southern twang. For the tone you want to chase a Tweed amp style tone with a light breakup. You can play this on any guitar, but the original was recorded on a Fender Strat with the 2nd pickup position selected, giving you the bridge and middle pickup on at the same time for that slightly honky tone.
This riff is based around a simple 3 chord progression, but it arpeggiates the chords as well as adding some lead lines at the end of each repeat.
