Made in early 1965, this tiny 6", vintage tube combo amp is very similar to the Silvertone Model 1430. These are knows as "widowmaker" amps because of the AC series filaments and absence of a power transformer. Here, we will take a look at the schematic, talk a little about what makes these 'unsafe', and show how to make this, or any "widow maker" amp, safer by adding a 3-prong cord and moving the power switch. In addition, we will talk about some other changes to improve the output and overall tone.
Tubes are a 12AU6 preamp tube, a 50C5 power tube, and a 35W4 rectifier. The speaker is the original Fisher AlNiCo. All other parts were original before our servicing.
