Ingredients:
1 x Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar (b. March 1, 2013)
1 x Fractal Audio Axe-FX II.
Good combo. Amazing, actually.
I used the Axe-FX II to build a virtual amp and effects rig based around a Dr Z MAZ 38 SR and 1 x 12 cabinet. The effects are on the epic (overblown?) side and feature Fractal Audio's versions of: TC 2290, Roland Dimension D, TS 808 (modded) Overdrive, EHX Big Muff Pi, a multi delay with modulation, Clyde Wah, Script 90 Phaser, Studio Compressor, Big Hall Reverb... Get the idea? BIG is the theme with this one.
Axe-FX II users wishing to try out my preset can download it from http://axechange.fractalaudio.com/detail.php?preset=2356 . Just try to remember that this one was voiced for Jazzmaster/Jag-type guitars so it may yield varying results with your own axe and will probably need some tweaking to suit. Also, I use a Mission SP1-R as wah/volume so you may have to disable the Wah modifier if you don't also use one (or similar).
The Jag is brand new. It arrived only two days ago although the neck stamp tells me it was built in Corona, March 1, 2013.
I've never owned a Jag but always wanted to. When I heard that Johnny Marr had put his own out with Fender I knew that was the one I had to get. I'm not disappointed. It's so much fun and full of sounds that I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing before; there's much to explore. I'm still learning about it but I thought I'd show and tell anyway.
I haven't spent any great time learning Mr Marr's riffs although I do admire his work greatly. I've been fortunate to meet him and see him work with several bands live. It's always an enlightening experience. Please don't be disappointed because this video doesn't feature a Johnny Marr recital, although I did flirt with a riff at the end, only to realise I didn't know it properly and promptly gave up before I dug myself any deeper...
As far as the guitar's electronic detail goes, I've avoided getting into it because there are at least a half dozen Youtube reviews out there explaining the wiring and differences of the JM version compared to the traditional Jag including those by Johnny Marr himself. I'm here to simply run through some possibilities.
