The design of the Eastcoast GS100 is inspired by probably the most recognisable electric guitar ever made, the iconic Fender Stratocaster, which is, or was, the guitar of choice for players such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Dave Gilmore and countless others. Thanks to their traditional 3 single coil pickups and the combinations that are available via the 5 way selector switch, Strat style guitars offer a huge tonal range covering most musical genres from jazz and funk through to blues and rock.
The GS100 is a full sized electric guitar with a traditional 25.5” scale length, the body is made from poplar and it features a bolt-on maple neck with an Amaranth fingerboard, or Purpleheart as it’s more commonly known, and this is fitted with 22 frets and dot style fingerboard markers. A set of well engineered sealed gear machine-heads ensures that tuning is smooth, easy and accurate, and the fully adjustable 6 saddle, 6 bolt synchronised style tremolo bridge performs really well, offering that classic Strat vibrato, with excellent tuning stability and consistent intonation as you play further up the neck. As with all of these Eastcoast guitars, it feels really easy to play with it’s smooth, satin finished neck, comfortable neck profile and a great, low action set-up straight out of the box.
Tonally, a strat style guitar such as the GS100 is the perfect all rounder, so it’s great for guitarists who want to dabble in a few different playing styles. As mentioned earlier, it’s fitted with 3 great sounding single coil pickups, with crisp sounding clean tones from the neck pickup and a more biting, cutting tone coming from the bridge pickup, which works really well with overdrive for a rockier sound. The 5 way selector switch allows you to access all of the tones in-between, and then there’s a volume and single tone control allowing you to roll off the treble frequencies for warmer, jazzier clean tones.
