Much has been made of a recent article in the Washington Post about the death of the Electric Guitar. The Tone King recently bought this up in an excellent interview with the CEO of Fender, who said he didn’t see it that way at all. We must say we agree, and it doesn’t seem like such a shift away from the electric guitar, but a shift to more diverse styles, and not just classic blues or rock guitar. So along with The Tone King’s interview, here are 5 things guitar players are doing in the 21st century.
1) They Play Post Rock
Along with the coffee drinking hipster culture, players seem to be shifting to other more alternative expressions of music.
2) They Play Crazy 8 String Math-Rock-Djent
There still are many technical guitar heroes, from players like Tosin Abasi to online sensations like Rob
Scallon, shredding in all different forms is still alive and well.
3) They Play P&W

Gone (for the most part) are the debates about if drums and guitars in church are right and wrong. Praise & Worship has risen to make up a significant proportion of both guitarists and and the guitar market.
4) They Love Taylor Swift
A point made my Fender’s CEO among others is that many new guitarists have picked up the guitar inspired by the popularity of Taylor Swift.
5) They Still Play Classic Electric Guitar
John Mayer’s longevity should show us one thing; that great playing, singing, and song writing will continue have a place music and culture.
