Three things alerted me to the work of Tom Drinkwater's Oakland Axe Factory: 1. Tom's solid reputation both as a builder as well as being a friendly and helpful person, 2. The incredibly beautiful and clean lines of his extended instruments, 3. Anyone who does a 7 string Jazzmaster-style guitar is tops in my book. So I took the chance on an Oakland Axe Factory instrument and I am not disappointed. In fact, I've gone ahead and ordered an 8 string as well, and Tom and I are working on a sort of signature model 7 string which has its roots in the guitar being demoed in this video. More details on that one soon.
Featuring Lace Alumitone Pickups, C shaped maple neck (oil/satin), big, beautifully finished frets, Hipshot hardware, and a very light and resonant Alder body, the JazzMonster7 is just that - a monster of a guitar! It's dead easy to play with joints that are mil-spec tight and a sound as full as a fat girl's sock. I love it.
